The Walrus celebrates Canada's Olympic city with four unique Vancouver covers

March 2010

As the world’s media prepare to turn their eyes to Vancouver, The Walrus is helping them find focus. In our March 2010 cover story, journalist Gary Stephen Ross has written the definitive piece about the city he calls home. Ross takes on an in-depth look at Vancouver’s place in the world, from the business of the coming Olympics and the state of arts funding, to the appetizers at Vij’s and the strollers in Kitsilano. As Ross keenly observes, there is a Vancouver that we see, and one that we don’t. With his help, The Walrus readers will experience both.

Because Vancouver can be seen from many different perspectives, we’ve done something very exciting on our cover for this issue. The March issue of The Walrus will hit newsstands on February 1st with four different covers, each created by Vancouver photographer Grant Harder. These special edition covers are sure to catch the eye of Canadian readers, and become collectors’ items. This innovative cover treatment is just another way that The Walrus continues to push the envelope in Canadian magazine publishing.

Complete your collection of our four special covers by visiting our Back Issues section. Or click here to purchase a special edition cover print that presents the quartet on a single canvas (available in two sizes, 21.5″ × 28.5″ and 32.5″ × 44.5″).

EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION ART:
THE WALRUS'S FIFTH-ANNIVERSARY ISSUE
BY DOUGLAS COUPLAND

Original artwork by Douglas Coupland

To commemorate its fifth anniversary, Canada’s award-winning magazine The Walrus commissioned Douglas Coupland to create a special collage for the cover of its anniversary issue. Using images culled from five years of The Walrus, Coupland created a vibrant and dynamic piece, as seen above.

In recognition of the publication’s milestone achievement, Coupland generously donated the cover art work to The Walrus Foundation. This work is printed in a limited edition of ten, is signed and numbered by the artist, and is available through Daniel Faria at the Monte Clark Gallery. The funds raised through the sale of these ten extraordinary prints will benefit the work of the charitable non-profit foundation and create a forum for public discourse on matters vital to Canadians while supporting Canadian writers, readers, artists, and ideas.
